Our latest YAM Participation Post comes from Michelle Harpster. Michelle is an art teacher at Mary Kay McMillin Early Childhood Center and Mountain Park Elementary in Berkeley Heights, NJ.

Once their work was completed, the students emailed their images and I compiled them into multiple collage spreads. Working alongside Cioffi's Deli and Pizza of Springfield and The Salad House of Westfield, Morristown, and Millburn, over 60, 22x14 inch cards containing student art are being delivered along with meals to various hospitals around the state: Saint Barnabas Medical Center Overlook Hospital Morristown Hospital University Hospital of Newark Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hackensack University Medical Center Christ Hospital in Jersey City Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Trinitas Medical Center in Elizabeth."

Madison is an 12th grader at Somerville High School in Somerville. Her art teacher is Lisa Conklin.

In regards to her Journey Though Art, Madison writes, "My journey through art has allowed me to develop a creative side to think outside of the box while practicing self-expression. I'm someone who has always struggled with confidence, but art has made me more proud to present my work ethic. Art is my resort of escaping all of the stress and chaos that comes with your typical teenage years. Relying on it has made me more willing to branch out of my comfort zone and strengthen my own skills. I've learned so much and have become so interested that one day I hope to pursue these skills into a profession that best suits me."

Congratulations, Madison!

Student Artist Spotlight: Daniel F.

A Special Student Artist Spotlight for today is Daniel F.

Daniel is an 8th grader at Bunker Hill Middle School in Washington Township, NJ. His art teacher is Bethany Franz.

In regards to his Journey Though Art, Daniel writes, "At a young age, my parents always wanted me and my older brother to be coloring or drawing, or something with the arts. As we got older my brother and I continued to draw. We took art classes and my brother started joining art clubs and taking art classes. I followed in his footsteps, and I am taking art classes at my school now. I like art because it is a way to help me relax. With all the school work and other things, I don't get as much down time. When I draw it releases stress and makes me feel happy. And when I make something bad, I can just erase it and start over. When I make something good, I feel really accomplished and proud of it. Art makes you feel like you are in another world."

Congratulations, Daniel!
